On 29 May 1953 Mr and Mrs Rigo finally realised their dream: they bought a new house, which they planned to move into with their children Rosalia, Egidio and Lorenzo. They bought the house for 250,000 Lire. It was in an isolated area of the hamlet of Range and close to an 18 metre-deep well dating back to 1890, still operational and to this day it remains the symbol of the hamlet.
Casa Rigo is only a 5-minute walk from the suggestive Gorgazzo Springs and 1 km away from the city centre of Polcenigo. Several hiking paths, trekking and mountain bike trails start here leading to the Carnic Pre-Alps, the Cansiglio forest and also the so called "Pendee" hills, situated southwards.
Since 1968 the property has been crossed by the Strada Pedemontana SP29, a provincial road which makes it easier and faster to get to Aviano, Pordenone and Sacile.
In 2013, 50 years after the purchase, the Rigo siblings finished the renovation of the house in accordance with their parents' will and divided it into three comfortable flats, one per floor.
Whenever possible the traces of the original building discovered during the renovation have been maintained and the stone walls, the angle stones and the "erte" (i.e. the typical vertical elements in a stone window frame) have been brought to light.
The façades of the house are completely plastered. While the Rigo siblings had originally hoped to bring back to light the beautiful exterior stone walls too, they decided to give more importance to the thermal insulation. Indeed, they improved it by adding heat pumps and a photovoltaic power system that make CASA RIGO a comfortable, yet energy-sustainable building.
